The Tour de l'Horloge, rebuilt in 1752 on the site of a much older watchtower, marks the symbolic centre of old Nîmes. Six storeys of pale stone, topped with a wrought-iron clock cage, the tower has been the meeting point and reference point for the surrounding old quarter for more than two centuries.
The streets that radiate from its base — Rue de l'Aspic, Rue du Chapitre, Rue des Marchands — are the prettiest in the old town and the densest concentration of small shops and cafés.
