Puycelsi

Fortified Tarn hill village perched over the Grésigne forest and the Vère valley.

Puycelsi is a fortified hill village in the Tarn, perched above the Vère valley and the vast Grésigne forest. It is small, but it has the old southern French trick of making a short walk feel like an arrival: ramparts, stone lanes, tiled roofs, and long views over woodland.

This is not a museum town with a list of ticketed attractions. The reward is the village itself: the ramparts, the Church of Saint-Corneille, and the lanes that open suddenly onto the forest below.

Puycelsi works best as a slow half-day from Albi, Gaillac, or Cordes-sur-Ciel. Come in good weather, take the village circuit, and leave time for the view rather than treating it as a quick photo stop.
