The Museum Frieder Burda is the most important modern art collection in Baden-Baden, housed in a white minimalist building designed by Richard Meier in 2004 and set on the Lichtentaler Allee. The permanent collection of the late publishing tycoon Frieder Burda includes works by Picasso, Pollock, Rothko, Beckmann, Richter, Kirchner, and Polke.
The building itself is part of the attraction: white walls, generous natural light, and a glass bridge connecting it to the older neoclassical Staatliche Kunsthalle next door. Travelling exhibitions are usually first-rate. The cafe in the basement is a pleasant lunch stop on a Lichtentaler Allee walk.
