Things to Do

The old town is the attraction — tumbling brick streets, painted facades, the rushing Lech below, and the Bayertor crowning the hill. Most of what's worth seeing fits in a half-day walk from the Hauptplatz up to the gate and along the river. The Mutterturm, a Victorian English folly above the old town, is the surprise: a four-storey ivy-covered tower built by the painter Hubert von Herkomer for his mother.
