Church St. Jakobus

Medieval parish church with crusader history on the market square

Address Marktstraße 21, 65385 Rüdesheim am Rhein

Catholic parish church on the market square, dating from the 14th century and said to have been built by the knight and crusader Johann Broemser. The half moon and star on the weather vane atop the tower recall the days of the crusades. Almost completely destroyed in 1944, the church was rebuilt of quarried brick typical of the Rhine area. Of special note are the medieval tombstones with effigies of Rudesheim's nobility in the northern aisle, as well as the Gothic tympanum above the western portal.
