Rügen has some of the best beaches in Germany — long, wide stretches of fine white sand backed by Bäderarchitektur or dunes. The headline beach is at Binz, broad and clean and busy in summer, but Sellin, Baabe, Göhren, Prora, and Juliusruh all have excellent stretches of their own.
Strandkörbe — the hooded wicker beach baskets — rent for €10–15 a day and are essential equipment in the typical Baltic breeze. Swimming in May and early June is bracing (around 14°C); by August the water hits 20°C. Nudism is widely accepted on several beaches (look for FKK signs), often in dedicated zones.
For something quieter, head for the long sweep at Prora or the dune-backed beach at Juliusruh in the north.
