Göhren

Göhren is the easternmost of Rügen's main seaside resorts, sitting on the narrow Mönchgut peninsula with beaches on both the north and south sides. It is smaller and less polished than Binz, with much of its Wilhelmine pier architecture intact and a quieter, more local feel.

The pier on the north beach extends into the Baltic with the rest of the open sea beyond. The Mönchguter Museum, spread across several thatched buildings in the village, is a serious and engaging look at the fishing and farming culture that defined the peninsula for centuries. Göhren is also the terminus of the Rasender Roland — the steam train arrival at the small wooden station is an event in itself.
