Bochum's Chinese Garden sits inside the Ruhr University botanical garden and feels deliberately removed from the surrounding campus. Built in the southern Chinese style, it has enclosed courtyards, water, stone, pavilions, and carefully framed views rather than the open lawns you might expect from a university garden.
It works best as a quiet detour when you are already near the university or visiting the botanical garden as a whole. The scale is small, but the craftsmanship and contrast with Bochum's industrial image make it more memorable than many municipal gardens.
