The Stadtpark is Bochum's main formal green space, a 64-hectare park laid out in the early twentieth century with rose gardens, a small lake, and wide tree-lined paths. It is most pleasant in spring when the gardens bloom, but locals use it year-round for running, cycling, and weekend walks. The Zeiss-Planetarium sits at the southern end of the park.
The park hosts a small open-air stage that sees concerts and theatre through the summer months. It is a short walk or tram ride north from the Hauptbahnhof and makes a good counterweight to an afternoon in the Mining Museum.
