Florianturm

Dortmund's landmark television tower rising above Westfalenpark.

The Florianturm is Dortmund's television tower, a slim concrete landmark rising from Westfalenpark. Built for the 1959 Federal Garden Show, it became one of the city's clearest postwar symbols: practical broadcasting infrastructure turned into a confident piece of civic skyline.

When access is available, the tower is mainly about the view. From above, Dortmund's industrial past, green parks, railway lines, and rebuilt centre make more sense as one landscape. Even from ground level it gives Westfalenpark a focal point and helps orient a walk through the gardens.
