Things to Do

Landau punches above its weight for a small German city. The zoo is widely regarded as one of the best in the region for its size, the Vauban fortification remnants give the town a distinctive character, and the surrounding wine country provides an excellent reason to extend a visit. The compact old town is pleasant for an afternoon walk, and the nearby Palatinate Forest offers hiking and cycling.

Wine tasting and vineyard walks are the main draw for many visitors. Landau sits on the edge of the Südliche Weinstraße (Southern Wine Route), and a short drive or cycle brings you to wine estates offering direct sales and tastings.
