Küchwald is Chemnitz's big green escape on the north side of the city. It mixes wooded paths, lawns, sports and leisure areas, and the Parkeisenbahn, the small park railway that gives families a reason to come even when they are not looking for a long walk.
This is a local park rather than a national sight, but it clears the bar in Chemnitz because it broadens the city beyond industrial museums and central architecture. Go if you want a low-key break, a run, or a relaxed afternoon with children.
