Halle's restaurant scene is unpretentious and good value. The old town around the Marktplatz has the highest concentration of places to eat, ranging from vaulted-cellar German taverns to Italian trattorias with views of the five towers. For something more unusual, head slightly further out for Russian cuisine or the eclectic Spätschicht near the Saale.
