Getting Around

Halle has an extensive tram network operated by HAVAG. A single ticket costs a couple of euros; day passes are usually the better deal for visitors. Tram lines 1 and 5 connect the Hauptbahnhof, the Marktplatz, and the northern suburbs including Burg Giebichenstein.

The historic centre is small and walkable; most major sights are within 15 minutes of the Marktplatz on foot. The Saale riverside makes a pleasant alternative axis for walking. Cycling is easy on the flat parts of the city.
