Halle has its own ICE station (Halle (Saale) Hauptbahnhof), about 15 minutes' walk south-east of the Marktplatz. Direct high-speed trains run from Berlin (just over an hour), Frankfurt (around three hours), and Munich. Leipzig is 25 minutes away by S-Bahn and the two cities share an airport, Leipzig/Halle (LEJ), about 20 km north of the centre.
By road Halle sits at the junction of the A14 and A38 motorways, with easy connections from Berlin, Dresden, Erfurt and the Ruhr. Parking in the old town is limited; use a Park & Ride lot near the ring road and take the tram in.
