Norman Lighthouse Ruins

A short walk north along the coast path from the harbour brings you to the ruins of a Norman-era lighthouse, a reminder that Fiskardo — known in medieval times as Fiscardo — was a strategic point for the Normans who controlled this stretch of the Ionian in the 12th century. The village itself is named after Robert Guiscard, the Norman duke who died here in 1085 during a campaign against the Byzantine Empire.

The lighthouse ruins are modest — a few stone walls among the scrub — but the coastal path to reach them is beautiful, with views across the strait to Lefkada and Ithaca. The walk takes about 20 minutes each way from the harbour and is best done in the early morning or late afternoon when the light is good.
