Olympiaki Akti (Olympic Beach)

Olympiaki Akti (Olympic Beach) is a beach resort about 15 km south of Katerini, on the coastal road that runs between Paralia Katerini and Leptokarya. The beach is backed by a strip of hotels, tavernas, and beach bars similar to Paralia Katerini but slightly less dense. The setting is arguably better: the coastline opens up more here and on clear days the foothills of Mount Olympus are visible to the southwest, providing the backdrop of mountain and sea that defines the Olympian Riviera.

The beach holds a Blue Flag and the shelving is gentle. Watersports — pedalo hire, windsurfing, banana boats — are available in season from kiosks along the shoreline. The resort caters primarily to Greek domestic tourism and a significant number of visitors from Serbia, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria who make up a large proportion of the summer coastal crowd in Pieria. Outside July and August, the place is quiet and most businesses close.

A story
Olympiaki Akti — 'Olympic Beach' — takes its name from the mountain, not the games, and is the second of the three main beach resorts south of Katerini on the Olympian Riviera. It is longer and marginally less crowded than Paralia Katerini, with a more open aspect and better views south toward the foothills of Mount Olympus.
