Halfway up the cliff between the old town and the Palamidi, a small whitewashed chapel called Agioi Pantes (All Saints) is reached by a staircase made of broken gravestones. The story goes that the stones came from a Catholic cemetery that the Greeks dismantled after independence; whether or not that is true, you can still read fragmentary names and dates on some of the treads.
The chapel itself is built into the living rock — half cave, half masonry — with a single narrow nave and an icon of the Pantokrator. It is a quiet detour off the climb to the Palamidi, and the view back over the red roofs of Nafplio is one of the best in town.
