Komboloi Museum

A single-subject museum dedicated to the worry bead — the komboloi — that Greek men flick endlessly between thumb and forefinger. The collection is arranged on the first floor of a narrow old town house and ranges from Tibetan prayer beads and Muslim tasbih through to the amber, coral and silver kombolois of nineteenth-century Greece.

The shop on the ground floor sells the same beads, including a few quietly expensive antique strings. Even if you do not buy anything, the museum is worth the small entry fee for the gentle, slightly obsessive enthusiasm of its founder Aris Evangelinos.
