The salt hill at Egerszalók is one of the most striking natural features in Hungary: a white, terraced hillside of calcium carbonate deposits formed by decades of overflowing thermal spring water, resembling a miniature version of the travertine terraces at Pamukkale. The thermal water that created it — at 68°C when it emerges from the ground — feeds the Saliris Resort spa complex at the base of the hill.
The spa is a large modern facility with indoor and outdoor thermal pools, multiple saunas, and extensive wellness facilities. The water has a high mineral content that leaves the skin feeling particularly smooth. Egerszalók is about 10 kilometres from central Eger and easily reached by bus or car; it makes an excellent half-day excursion from the city, particularly in cooler months when outdoor bathing in warm water is most rewarding.
