Dumtsa Jenő utca

Pedestrian street linking the HÉV station to Fő tér

Dumtsa Jenő utca is the main pedestrian street running from the southern edge of town up to Fő tér. Most visitors walk it without realising it has a name; the street is the natural axis of any visit to Szentendre, lined with souvenir shops, gelato counters, and the Szamos Marzipan Museum about halfway along.

The street is named after Jenő Dumtsa (1838–1917), the long-serving mayor of Szentendre who pushed through the railway connection to Budapest in 1888 — the change that turned the sleepy Baroque town into the day-trip destination it remains today.
