Templom tér — Church Square — sits on the low hill just above Fő tér. The walk up takes a couple of minutes through narrow cobbled lanes; the climb is worth it for the view alone. From the parapet at the edge of the square the rooftops of Szentendre and the Danube bend spread out below.
At the centre of the square stands the parish church of John the Baptist, the oldest building in town. A Romanesque foundation, rebuilt in Gothic style in the 14th century and again in Baroque, it predates the arrival of the Serbs by several hundred years. In summer the square hosts a small Sunday craft market, and the cluster of artists' studios around the perimeter open their doors to visitors.
