Urban Public Transport Museum

Restored Budapest trams, buses, and trolleys in an old HÉV depot

Address Dózsa György út

The Urban Public Transport Museum occupies the old HÉV depot at the southern edge of Szentendre, a short walk from where the suburban train pulls in. It collects the rolling stock that has shifted Budapest's commuters since the 1880s: horse-drawn omnibuses, single-deck wooden trams, the iconic Ikarus articulated buses, and the heavy yellow trolleys that still run on the Pest side of the river.

The depot's siding tracks let visitors walk between full-sized vehicles parked end to end. Children climb into the drivers' cabs; rail enthusiasts compare bogie designs. It is not a flashy museum, but the scale of the collection and the working depot setting give it more atmosphere than most transport collections. Open weekends from spring to autumn; entry inexpensive.
