The Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna occupies the long brick shed of the former Forno del Pane, the municipal bakery that fed Bologna through the early twentieth century. The conversion preserves the industrial bones — exposed brick, ironwork, generous skylights — and uses them as a foil for a strong permanent collection of post-war Italian art.
MAMbo also includes the Museo Morandi, the dedicated collection of Bologna's greatest twentieth-century painter Giorgio Morandi. Together they are the largest single contemporary-art venue in the city. The building sits in the Manifattura delle Arti, the regenerated former industrial district north of the centre.
