Parco Villa Ghigi

Hillside nature park just outside the southern walls

Parco Villa Ghigi spreads over the hills immediately south of the historic centre, on the slopes around the old country estate of the Ghigi family. The 28-hectare park is half wood, half open meadow, with footpaths winding past olive groves, vineyards, the kitchen garden of the old villa, and several viewpoints back over the city.

The park is free, open all day, and lightly used compared with the more central Giardini Margherita. Cycling is allowed on the main tracks. The walk in from Porta San Mamolo via Via Codivilla takes about twenty minutes. Bring a picnic.
