Santa Maria dell'Anima

Santa Maria dell'Anima is the German-speaking Catholic community's church in Rome, tucked into the dense streets just west of Piazza Navona. The church is best known to visitors for the tomb of Pope Adrian VI, the last non-Italian pope before John Paul II.

It is a quiet, worthwhile detour while exploring the Pantheon and Navona area, especially if you are tracing Rome's foreign national churches or the papal monuments scattered through the old centre.
