Piazza del Duomo is Milan's grand central square, with the cathedral on one side and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II opening just beside it. The square is busy, polished, and theatrical, but it is also the easiest place to understand the city's public face: fashion crowds, day trippers, office workers, and street performers all passing under the Duomo's marble spires.
