Rocca Minore

The smaller of Assisi's two fortresses, the Rocca Minore (or Rocca Minor) sits on a lower eastern hill above the town and was built in 1367 by Cardinal Albornoz at the same time as the main Rocca. It is a single square tower connected to the town wall, far less visited than its big sister, but the view from the base is excellent and the climb is short.

There is little to see inside (often it is closed altogether), but the walk up — through the eastern part of the old town, past olive groves on the slope — is one of the more pleasant short walks in Assisi.
