A largely traffic-free cycle route runs along the eastern and southern shores of Lake Trasimeno, starting from San Feliciano and continuing toward Castiglione del Lago. The full circuit of the lake is approximately 60 kilometres, though the northern shore section is less complete and requires some road riding. The flat terrain makes it accessible to most cyclists, and the scenery shifts between reed beds, olive groves, and small fishing villages throughout.
The stretch between San Feliciano and Castiglione del Lago on the southern shore is the most polished section — well-surfaced, clearly signed, and passing through several points where you can stop to watch birds in the wetland margins. Bikes can be hired at several points around the lake, including in San Feliciano. Allow a full day for the complete circuit; the southern section alone takes two to three hours at a relaxed pace.
