The old town is compact and best explored on foot, though the steep drops between the Haute Ville plateau and the Grund valley below mean you'll use your legs. The city has a tram line connecting the train station to Kirchberg (the EU quarter and Philharmonie), which opened in 2017 and has been extended since. All public transport in Luxembourg — city buses, trams, trains, and regional coaches — has been free since 2020. Bus routes are run by Luxtram and AVL; see autobus.lu for routes and timetables.
