Melusina Statue

The 2015 magenta-coloured statue by Serge Ecker stands on a rock by the Alzette near the Bock, commemorating the legendary mermaid wife of Count Siegfried, the founder of Luxembourg. She has become a low-key meeting point and selfie spot.

Reach her by walking down into the Grund from the old town; the riverside path is a pleasant five-minute extension from the bottom of the Bock cliff.

A story
The legend has Count Siegfried marry the water spirit Melusina on condition she could disappear into the Alzette every Saturday. When he eventually spied on her, she vanished into the rock — and is said to return every seven years, knitting one stitch a year on a shirt that, when finished, will bring back the lost kingdom of Luxembourg.
