Tigné Point

Redeveloped peninsula at the tip of Sliema, with fort remnants, shopping, and harbour views

The northern tip of Sliema, Tigné Point is a peninsula that was home to a British military fort until the 1970s. The fort — a circular structure designed by the British in the early 19th century — has been partly preserved and incorporated into a modern development of apartments, a shopping mall, and restaurants. It is a slightly strange hybrid, but the setting is genuinely spectacular: water on three sides, direct views across to Valletta and St Julian's.

The Tigné Point shopping complex has the full range of international brands and is where Sliema residents do serious shopping. The tip of the peninsula, beyond the development, gives some of the finest harbour views in Malta. Walk out to the edge at dusk and the combination of Valletta's fortifications, the Grand Harbour ferries, and the open sea makes for a memorable evening.
