Shopping

The most distinctive Kotor shopping is at the old market that runs along the seafront just outside the Sea Gate — open daily until early afternoon, with stalls selling dried figs, mountain prosciutto, sheep's cheese, mushroom paste, lavender honey, and bottles of olive oil pressed in the surrounding villages. The figs in particular are excellent — buy a bag for the road.

Inside the old town, shops sell the predictable mix of cruise-ship souvenirs (cat-themed everything), Montenegrin red wine and rakija, silver jewellery, and lace from the inland villages. A few quieter places worth seeking out: the small bookshop on Trg od Brašna, the lace-and-linen shops in the lanes off the cathedral square, and the cluster of artisan-soap and herbal-shop stalls near the River Gate.
