Eating Out

Kotor's best eating is seafood — fresh fish, octopus salad, crni rižot (squid-ink risotto), and grilled scampi — alongside Montenegrin grill (ćevapi, pljeskavica) and the mountain meats of the hinterland, especially the njeguški pršut dried in the cold air of the Lovćen massif.

The old town has plenty of restaurants, but the cruise-ship traffic means quality varies sharply — the places visible from the main squares are often not the best ones. Walk a block or two further in, or cross the bay to Muo or up to Dobrota where the konobas are run by families and the fish comes off the boats outside. The market outside the Sea Gate is the place to assemble a picnic.
