The Bay of Kotor and the surrounding area offer some of the best day trips in Montenegro. Perast is 12km along the bay road — a baroque town with two picturesque islands just offshore. Herceg Novi is at the mouth of the bay, about 40km, with its own layered old town and a calmer atmosphere than Kotor in peak season.
Budva is 30km south: more beach-oriented, busier in summer, but the walled old town on its peninsula is worth seeing. Cetinje, the former royal capital, is 35km inland over the Lovćen pass — a short but spectacular drive.
