A late-Gothic hall church started by the Dominicans (Jacobijnen) in the thirteenth century and rebuilt and expanded in stages until the sixteenth. The interior is whitewashed and luminous in the Dutch Reformed manner, but the floor and side chapels preserve striking medieval tombstones — including the burial vaults of several stadtholders of Friesland.
The Müller organ from 1727 is one of the finest baroque instruments in the Netherlands. Free organ recitals run through the summer. The church also hosts art shows and concerts year-round; check the schedule on arrival.
