Mata Hari Statue

A 1976 bronze of Margaretha Zelle in dancer's pose stands on the Korfmakersstraat bridge, just over the canal from her childhood home at Grote Kerkstraat 28. Sculpted by Suze Boschma-Berkhout for the centenary of her birth, it shows Mata Hari as the public knew her — bare feet, draped scarves, one arm raised.

The bridge is small and easy to miss. Pause for the statue, then walk down the Grote Kerkstraat to find the plaque on her birthplace. The full Mata Hari story is told inside the Fries Museum a few streets away.
