Marken is a small island and most visitors see it on a half-day excursion from Amsterdam or Volendam. The Marker Museum, the dyke walk, and wandering the distinctive buurt neighbourhoods with their raised wooden houses are the main draws. The island is compact enough that no planning is required — just walking around is the experience.
