Munkholmen

Island fortress turned summer hangout in Trondheim Fjord

A small island in the Trondheim Fjord, a fifteen-minute motorboat ride from the harbour at Ravnkloa. The island has been a monastery, a prison, and a fort at various points in its history — the ruins and the views back to the cathedral make it worth the trip. Ferries run throughout the summer; the island has a swimming area and a café.
