St. Andrew Church

St. Andrew Church is one of Krakow's strongest pieces of Romanesque architecture, with two narrow towers rising above Grodzka Street. Built in the 11th century, it still has the compact, defensive character of a church that was meant to shelter people as well as serve them.

The outside is the reason to stop, but the Baroque interior adds a second layer of history. It sits close to the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, making the contrast between Romanesque strength and Jesuit Baroque display especially easy to see.
