Gruta da Figueira Brava is a coastal cave in the Arrabida area whose importance is far greater than its modest appearance suggests. Archaeological work here has produced evidence for Neanderthal use of marine resources, making it part of a wider rethinking of how sophisticated these communities were.
The cave itself is not a casual show cave, so check access before planning around it. Even if you only view the coastline nearby, it adds a deeper layer to Setubal and Arrabida: this landscape has drawn people to its cliffs, sea, and shelter for tens of thousands of years.
