Porto Palafitico da Carrasqueira is a traditional stilt harbour on the Sado estuary, built from rough wooden stakes and walkways. For more than two centuries it has served local fishing boats, with small sheds standing over the mudflats.
Come for the odd, fragile-looking geometry of the wharf and the quiet estuary light, especially outside the harsh middle of the day.
