The Neolog synagogue on Strada Poarta Schei is one of the prettier 19th-century synagogue buildings in Transylvania — pale pink and yellow stripes, Moorish horseshoe arches, a tall central rose window. It was completed in 1901 by the Viennese architect Leopold Baumhorn, who designed dozens of similar synagogues across the Habsburg lands.
The building survived the Holocaust largely intact and is still used by a small surviving community. Visits are by donation; check at the door for opening times, which vary. Photography is permitted in the gallery rather than the main hall.
