Măgura Uroiului is a volcanic dome rising above the Mureș valley near Simeria. The reserve protects a Miocene volcanic formation and the remains of a Roman-period quarry, where andesite was cut for buildings and monuments at Micia, Ulpia Traiana, and other settlements in the region.
