Moskovits Palace

1905 Art Nouveau apartment block on the Republicii corso

Address Strada Republicii, Oradea

The Palatul Moskovits was built in 1905 for the Moskovits family — pharmacy owners and one of the wealthier Jewish dynasties of pre-war Oradea — to designs by Komor Marcell and Jakab Dezső. It is one of the earliest and most exuberant Art Nouveau buildings in the city, with a curved corner tower, balconies on cantilevered iron brackets, and elaborate floral plasterwork.

It sits on Strada Republicii, the pedestrian corso that runs north from Union Square and concentrates the city's best secession-era architecture. The ground floor still houses shops; the upper floors are private apartments.
