The Sinagoga Sion is the largest of Oradea's former synagogues and a reminder that, before the Holocaust, around a third of the city's population was Jewish. Built in 1878 in the then-fashionable Moorish Revival style, with a central dome flanked by twin minarets, it served the Neolog (reformed) community that dominated Oradea's professional and commercial life.
The building stood derelict for decades after 1944, but a long restoration completed in 2018 returned the interior decoration to something close to its original state — Moorish arches, stencilled walls and a star-vault under the dome. It now functions as a cultural centre and concert hall, with a small permanent exhibition on Oradea's Jewish community and the deportations of May 1944.
