Țării Crișurilor Museum

Regional museum covering Bihor's archaeology, history and art

Address Calea Matei Basarab, Oradea

The Muzeul Țării Crișurilor — the "Museum of the Crișuri Lands" — is Oradea's main regional museum, covering the archaeology, ethnography, natural history and fine art of the Bihor region. It moved in 2018 from its longtime home in the Baroque Palace to a new purpose-built complex on the southern edge of the city centre, gaining far more display space in the process.

The archaeology galleries are the strongest, with finds from the local Neolithic, Dacian and Roman periods, including the well-preserved bronzes from the Otomani Bronze Age culture. The fine art collection has a respectable run of 19th-century Romanian and Hungarian painting and a small Brueghel attributed to one of the workshop's lesser hands. The ethnographic floor, with reconstructed peasant interiors from the Bihor villages, is more atmospheric than scholarly but worth twenty minutes.
