The National Art Museum of the Sakha Republic has one of the more interesting regional art collections in Russia. The building holds Russian and European works alongside an extensive collection of Yakut art — paintings, graphics, and traditional carved bone and mammoth ivory.
The bone carvings are the highlight. Yakut artists have been working in mammoth ivory for generations, and the museum displays both historical pieces and contemporary work that draws on Yakut myth and landscape. It is the best single place to get a sense of Sakha visual culture.
