The bright white Evangelical Church on the main square is the most prominent of Levoča's non-Catholic buildings. It was completed in 1837 in a strict Classicist style, designed on a Greek-cross plan with a central dome. It replaced two earlier wooden Lutheran churches — the second was, oddly, listed by UNESCO as one of the Wooden Churches of the Slovak Carpathians until it was demolished to make way for this stone one.
The interior is severe and bright, in contrast to the dim Gothic of St. James across the square — a useful illustration of the different aesthetic that Protestant Spiš communities favoured.
