Benalmádena is well-placed for day trips. Málaga, the cultural capital of the coast with its Picasso Museum and Alcazaba, is twenty minutes by train. Marbella and the white-villages of the Costa del Sol are an easy drive west. Ronda, with its astonishing gorge and bridge, is about ninety minutes inland and well worth the trip.
The nearest white village is Mijas Pueblo, perched in the hills just behind the coast — about twenty minutes by car. Fuengirola, the next resort down the coast, has the best castle (Sohail) and a busy Tuesday market.
